COLOMBO, July 3 (Xinhua) -- A new contingency of 61 army personnel from the Sri Lanka Army left for South Sudan on Wednesday to serve under the Phase 6 of the UN Mission, the army said in a statement here.

The 61 army personnel include 11 officers who will serve in the SRIMED Level 2 Hospital in Bor, South Sudan.

"The Sri Lanka Army, taking its increased and matured professionalism to foreign shores with an urgent medical project at the request of the UN, succeeded in establishing its first-ever SRIMED Level 2 Hospital in Bor, South Sudan a few years ago under the UN Mission," the army said.

Sri Lanka has now been recognized as a Troop Contributing Country by the UN and has deployed many army personnel for UN peacekeeping missions in foreign countries.
