Pakistani PM addresses letter to Indian counterpart, vows to work for peace

ISLAMABAD, June 7 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has addressed a letter to his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi, in which he "emphasized the need to work together, on the basis of mutual respect and trust, to address challenges faced by people of both the countries, including poverty and underdevelopment," officials said here on Friday.

Foreign Ministry officials said Khan addressed the letter to Prime Minister Modi in line with established diplomatic norms and inter-state practice, congratulating him on assumption of office after the landslide victory of his Bharatiya Janata Party in elections.

The officials did not say when the letter was sent.

Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi also sent a letter to his Indian counterpart S. Jaishankar congratulating his on assumption of office, the sources said.
