CHONGQING, May 16 (Xinhua) -- Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality has signed cooperative documents with regions and cities of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states and observer states.

The agreements were inked during the 2019 SCO Heads of Region Meeting held in the city on Wednesday.

Chinese delegates and more than 130 overseas delegates from member states of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Pakistan, as well as observer states of Afghanistan, Belarus, Iran and Mongolia, participated in the meeting.

Chongqing inked trade agreements with Samara of Russia, Osh of Kyrgyzstan and Samarkand and Bukhara of Uzbekistan. The Chongqing Municipal Commission of Culture and Tourism signed a memorandum of understanding on strategic cooperation with its counterpart in Qashqadaryo region of Uzbekistan.

The Yubei district of Chongqing signed a cooperative document with the Minsk region of Belarus.

The SCO Heads of Region Meeting has helped advance exchanges in commerce, tourism, culture and education between regions, said Sherali Saidamir Jonon, deputy secretary-general of the SCO Secretariat.

Chongqing mayor Tang Liangzhi said he hopes regions will seize the opportunities brought along by the Belt and Road Initiative, increase policy coordination and explore strength to aid economic and social development.
