WASHINGTON, May 7 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Donald Trump honored Tiger Woods for his momentous golf career by awarding him the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian honor, at the White House on Monday.

Woods won the title of the Augusta Masters golf tournament last month, ending an 11-year major championship drought. It's his fifth title at the Masters.

"I've tried to hang in there, and I've tried to come back and play the great game of golf again. I've been lucky enough to have had the opportunity to do it again," said Woods, who battled injuries in recent years.
