SUVA, April 8 (Xinhua) -- New Zealand Police was discussing with its Fijian counterpart about tightening up security measures between the two countries and assisting Fiji with drug issues, Fijian Police said in a statement on Monday.

Fijian Police said New Zealand Police Deputy Commissioner Mike Clements was in Fiji to discuss the ongoing security cooperation between New Zealand police and their Fijian counterparts.

Fijian Police Commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho and Clements met briefly at the police headquarters in Suva, capital of Fiji.

Qiliho said since the establishment of the Fiji Detector Dog Unit, over 150 million Fijian dollars (about 70 million U.S. dollars) worth of drugs had been seized and the latest seizure is the 39 kg cocaine under the collaboration of New Zealand and Fiji police.

Meanwhile, New Zealand will send two police officers for secondment to Fiji later this month to help with Fiji's drugs investigations.
