BUENOS AIRES, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- The Argentine first division football match between Colon de Santa Fe and San Lorenzo has been suspended amid fears of a dengue outbreak.

The match had been scheduled to be played in Colon, in the northeastern Argentine province of Santa Fe, on Saturday as part of the 18th round of Superliga Argentina matches.

But it was shifted to March 22 after eight Colon players showed symptoms of the mosquito-borne disease.

"Having received the medical reports from Colon de Santa Fe and in line with a ... Santa Fe health ministry report, the decision was made to postpone the match," the Superliga said on its official website on Thursday.

Colon said the players initially tested negative to the disease but were told to remain vigilant and undergo a new blood analysis if the symptoms persisted.

Dengue is a viral infection transmitted by the aedes aegypti mosquito. Its effects range from mild flu-like symptoms to death in rare cases.
