KABUL, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- More than 330 newly graduated Afghan officers joined the country's national army on Monday, an army source said.

"Up to 331 army officers received their certificate during a ceremony at Kabul Military Training Center (KMTC) Monday morning," Colonel Mohammad Amin Waheedi, commander of the KMTC, told Xinhua.

The new graduates have received a 12-week training period at the KMTC in eastern Kabul, he said, adding that they would be deployed to the countryside.

The latest graduation came as Taliban militants have escalated attacks over the past couple of months and fighting has been continuing in nearly half of the country's 34 provinces.

The graduation will boost the capacity of the Afghan army and enable the security forces to further check subversive activities, Waheedi said.
