JAKARTA, Feb. 1 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's South Sumatra province capital of Palembang will host the 2019 Palembang Triathlon from February 9 to 11, with 400 athletes from at least eight countries taking part, organizers said here on Friday.

The event will be held at Palembang's Jakabaring Sport City (JSC), the sports complex that hosted 2018 Asian Games, chief organizer Juliany Nurdin said.

"Even though Palembang has no beach, the lake is capable of hosting such an event. We want to share the Asian Games experience for all athletes in the upcoming triathlon," Nurdin said.

She added that the sport facilities in JSC were extremely capable of hosting the triathlon's three sports of swimming, running and cycling, also noting that the Palembang Triathlon is expected to further boost sports tourism in the city.
