BEIRUT, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani revealed that Qatar intends to buy 500 million U.S. dollars of Lebanese government bond, Elnashra, an online independent newspaper reported Monday.

The Qatari foreign minister's declaration came after the Emir of Qatar Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani took part in the Arab Economic and Social Development Summit which took place in Lebanon on Jan. 20.

The Qatari initiative was discussed between Lebanese President Michel Aoun, caretaker Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil and Emir of Qatar.

The minister assured that Qatar has always been a supporter for Lebanon amid the several challenges it has faced.
