BEIJING, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) -- China on Wednesday extended congratulations to Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's Awami League party for winning the parliamentary elections.

"We wish to work with the new Bangladeshi government to promote the development of the China-Bangladesh strategic partnership of cooperation," Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang told a regular news briefing.

According to results announced by the Bangladeshi election office on Dec. 31, the Awami League secured an overwhelming victory.
