BAGHDAD, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- Iraqi Air Force on Tuesday carried out airstrikes on two positions of extremist Islamic State (IS) group inside Syria near the Iraqi border, the Iraqi military said.

The Iraqi F-16 jets bombarded an IS hideout where 30 extremist militants were inside for a meeting of the group's leaders in Susa area in eastern Syria, a statement issued by the Iraqi Joint Operations Command (JOC) said.

Another airstrike targeted an IS hideout housing 14 suicide bombers in the same area, the JOC said.

"According to the intelligence reports, the two targets were completely destroyed," it said.

The airstrikes were ordered by Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi, who is also the commander-in-chief of the Iraqi forces, based on accurate intelligence reports, the statement added.

The airstrikes are part of the continued preemptive airstrikes against IS militants inside Syria launched by Iraqi fighter jets.

Late last year, former Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi officially declared full liberation of Iraq from IS after Iraqi forces recaptured all the areas once seized by the extremist group.
