WASHINGTON, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- Police are responding to reports of an active shooter at a military medical facility in Bethesda, U.S. state of Maryland, local news outlets reported Tuesday afternoon.

The incident reportedly occurred at Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, which is located just outside Washington, D.C.

U.S. Congressman Dutch Ruppersberger, who serves Maryland's 2nd District, tweeted that he and about 40 other people are safe in a conference room at the medical center and that they've been told "there is an active shooter."

No other details were immediately available.
