LAGOS, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- Nigeria will conduct a three-day refresher course for referees in continuation of its capacity building for key stakeholders in the sport, an official said Monday.

The event will be held between Oct. 23 and Oct. 26 in Lagos, Nigeria's commercial hub.

President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) Musa Kida said in Lagos that the course was important as it was for the federation to spread its development programs across board.

The training is to improve outputs from the grassroots, he added.

He said a recent tournament was an eye opener on the need for referees to undergo refresher courses to stay abreast of new basketball rules.

The federation has declared the training free for all intending referees for the course sponsored by Total Nigeria to encourage participation.
