URUMQI, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- The 9th traditional games of ethnic minorities in Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region opened Saturday in the city of Yining.

Athletes from 16 delegations across the Region will compete in the games.

There will be 16 sports and 130 events in the games including Wushu, archery, and other traditional sports events.

The first traditional games of ethnic minorities in Xinjiang was held in 1985. The games aim to promote the development of Chinese traditional sports events for ethnic groups.
