BERLIN, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Germany's Arthur Abele clinched the decathlon gold with 8,431 points at the inaugural multi-sport European Championships in Berlin's Olympic Stadium on Wednesday.

The 32-year-old secured the first gold for Germany.

Russian athlete Ilya Shkurneyov got the silver with 8,321 points followed by Belarus' Vitalu Shuk with 8,290 points.
