HANOI, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam beat Palestine 1-0 here on Sunday as the international U23 football tournament entered the second competing day.

Vietnam scored the only goal of the match in the 89th minute.

Also on Sunday, Uzbekistan, the tournament's favorites, lost 2-1 to Oman.

The tournament will last to Aug. 7 with the winners being awarded a prize of 20,000 U.S. dollars.

The tournament serves as a preparation for the upcoming 2018 Asiad in Indonesia, said the Vietnam Football Federation.

In January, Vietnam finished as runners-up at the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U23 championship after losing 2-1 to Uzbekistan in the final in Changzhou, China. Enditem
