TEHRAN, June 21 (Xinhua) -- Two Iranian border guards were killed in an attack by armed groups at a border post in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan, local media reported on Thursday.

Gunmen attacked the border post concurrent with the soccer match between Iran and Spain in the World Cup 2018 on Wednesday night.

In the attack, three other guards were injured, the report said, but it did not elaborate on the affiliation of the attackers.

Over the past years, Iran's southeast border has been the scene of deadly clashes between the armed groups and the security guards.
