TOKYO, June 12 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Tuesday as a comparatively weak yen versus the U.S. dollar encouraged buying amid optimism over a summit between the United States and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) in Singapore Tuesday.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 192.71 points, or 0.85 percent, from Monday to 22,996.75.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 13.12 points, or 0.73 percent, to 1,799.96.

Oil and coal product, rubber product and land transportation-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
