BEIJING, April 6 (Xinhua) -- There have been no talks over economic and trade issues between Chinese and U.S. economic officials recently, a spokesperson with China's commerce ministry said Friday.

"We have noticed that many U.S. officials have hinted that the two sides are in talks, but that is not the real case," Gao Feng, spokesperson with the Ministry of Commerce said at a press conference Friday evening.

The remarks came after the U.S. President Donald Trump said Thursday that he had asked the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) to consider "100 billion U.S. dollars of additional tariffs" on Chinese products.

China responded firmly to the U.S. 301 Section investigation report and its proposed tariff list and gave stronger response to its proposal for additional tariffs. Under such circumstances, it's getting impossible for any bilateral talks over this issue, Gao added.
