SANTO DOMINGO, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- A power outage on Monday hit the Dominican Republic due to a "major failure" in the National Interconnected Electrical System, the Dominican Electricity Transmission Company said in a statement.
The power cut impacted the capital Santo Domingo and several provinces of the country.
Public transportation is one of the most affected sectors, with passengers evacuated from both metro lines of the capital and from one line of the cable car.
The company said that operations to recover the power service are underway. ■
