SYDNEY, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- Two people have died and two more have been hospitalized after a utility vehicle crashed into a tree on a property in the Australian state of Queensland on Monday.
The Queensland Police Service (QPS) said on Tuesday that the vehicle went over an embankment and hit a tree on the private property in Sandy Creek, 80 km north of Brisbane, shortly before 1:30 p.m. local time on Monday.
The 59-year-old male driver and a 75-year-old male rear passenger were declared deceased at the scene.
A 33-year-old woman who was traveling in the rear of the vehicle was airlifted to a Brisbane hospital with critical injuries.
A second woman, a 50-year-old who was the front passenger, was able to self-extract from the vehicle before she was also airlifted to the hospital for treatment.
A dog that was also in the vehicle died.
The QPS said that the vehicle has been towed for mechanical inspection and that the forensic crash unit has commenced an investigation. ■
