COLOMBO, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- The Sri Lankan government will present a supplementary estimate of 500 billion Sri Lankan rupees (about 1.6 billion U.S. dollars) to parliament on Thursday for relief work after Cyclone Ditwah.

The money will be used to fund compensation for affected communities and support the rebuilding of infrastructure and economic activity, according to Minister of Labor and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Anil Jayantha Fernando.

Cyclone Ditwah caused widespread damage across the island, disrupting livelihoods and public services and prompting the government to seek both domestic and international support for recovery efforts.

He said a comprehensive assessment of the damage caused by Cyclone Ditwah is nearing completion and that the findings will be made public in the coming days.

The government will also convene an international donor conference in January 2026 to seek foreign assistance for post-disaster recovery, he added.
